Bio - Sylvia Arnold

Sylvia Arnold

I was raised on a farm in a rural community near Peterborough. I went to York University graduated with a degree in Geography and Sociology and then worked for Bell for 30 years in customer service, sales, marketing, corporate planning and as a business analyst.

I then worked part time as Office Administrator for Oikocredit Canada until 2016.Living in a rural community, “the church” was an integral part of the community. From a very early age I was very involved in Cavan United Church.

I came to Erin Mills United in 1992.  I became involved in various committees and when I retired in 2001, I became more involved. In 2005 I became the backup office administrator, a job that allows me to meet many people and to help look after the church from an administrative and pastoral care perspective.

Currently I am the Leadership Circle Leader for worship and music, sing in the choir. assist in organizing the Circle of Friends and act as wedding and funeral co-ordinator.

I have been the wedding and funeral co-ordinator since 2005 and I find that co-ordinating both weddings and funerals is truly fulfilling. It gives me such joy to see a happy bride and groom with their family and friends. I love to help them plan their wedding service, providing ideas for decorating, and giving suggestions for service flow in our church.

I am also comfortable supporting and caring for the needs of those who are grieving, by simply being there for them, listening, providing suggestions for the funeral service, flowers and reception.  For both weddings and funerals, I want those involved to feel and know that EMUC really cares for them.

On a personal note, I love gardening, music in its many forms, reading, walking and enjoying nature.
