Erin Mills United Church is an Affirming Ministry

It is with great excitement that Erin Mills United Church announces that in October 2022 the congregation voted to become a fully affirming ministry. We have been working towards this designation for over two years. Our vote to become an Affirming Ministry means that we have committed to a ministry of inclusion and justice-making. Just as God rejoices in the goodness and diversity of creation, so too Affirming Ministries honour and celebrate diversity in all its forms.

Affirming Ministries are not dramatically different from other United Church ministries. We worship, pray, support, serve, learn, play and grow just like other ministries. But if you look carefully, you may notice our public, intentional and explicit statements and symbols of welcome for people whose sexual orientations and gender identities have been historically marginalized and excluded within the church and in society.

Our mission statement now includes explicit language that states we welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, races, cultures and abilities. As an Affirming Ministry, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation. We seek to create a safe space with an open invitation to bring every aspect of a person’s whole self into participation within this ministry.
