Ian MacRae Bursary

Ian MacRae Bursary

A bursary in memory of Ian MacRae is awarded annually to a student preparing to attend a college or university in the fall. This bursary is offered to all students and is not restricted to members of the congregation. Application forms and a brochure with the bursary details are available in the church office. Submissions are due by the end of May each year.

History of the Ian Mac Rae Memorial Bursary Award:

The Ian Mac Rae Memorial Bursary was established in 2000 in memory of Ian Mac Rae, a member of Erin Mills United Church, who was active in fund-raising for the congregation’s youth ministry. Two gifts of $5000 (five thousand dollars) each were donated by the BENEFIT PLAN ADMINISTRATORS LTD (BPA) where Ian worked and his daughters Karen Mac Rae Hewitt and Dawn Mac Rae Steven. From the earned interest on the invested gift, one or more bursaries are offered annually for young persons in financial need, who are planning to attend post-secondary education (college or university) to learn skills which will assist them in achieving their career goals.

The trustees of Erin Mills United Church manage the investment funds. The Ian Mac Rae Bursary Committee advertises the Bursary, receives applications, screens all the candidates, and selects the recipient of the award. The Bursary will be awarded based on demonstrated need, academic achievement, potential and proven merit. Preference will be given to candidates living in the Erin Mills catchment area. The bursary is a one-time award for each student, to assist with their first year of studies.

The amount of the Bursary will depend on interest earned and normally not be less than three hundred dollars.
