This group of volunteers oversees the day to day finances of operating the church. Members include the treasurer, the bookkeeper, a designated accountant, a financial analyst, the envelope secretary, a representative from the Investment Committee and finance coordinators for payroll and offering counters. The group meets monthly and tasks include financial reporting to the Leadership Circle, budget preparation and audit reporting.
This committee oversees and manages the long-term investments of the church.
A formal committee for fundraising does not exist; however, planned fundraising events are overseen by specific coordinators. Fundraising events occur each year as part of the planned budget. New fundraising efforts are always welcomed.
EMUC is self-supporting financially. We rely on various revenue streams to cover ongoing expenses of staff salaries, building maintenance, utilities, etc. The main revenue source is donations from members of the congregation and visitors, supplemented by income from sources such as building rentals, fundraising, and the sale of solar panel energy into the local energy grid.
Members of the congregation also financially support outreach into the community and beyond. This includes the Benevolent Fund which assists those in need in the community; the Deacon’s Cupboard, a food agency supported by EMUC; and the United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service Fund supporting its mission work in Canada and abroad.
Financial givings may be given in four ways: loose money on the offering plate each Sunday, the use of giving envelopes placed on the offering plate on Sundays, using PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance), or donations made online through the website processed through Canada Helps. Tax receipts are issued for givings with the exception of the loose givings.
In addition to financial donations, the sharing of time and talents is of utmost importance. Opportunities arise for people to help with tasks on committees and events, and providing leadership within the church. These are recognized continually and are an important part of ongoing Stewardship throughout the church year.
